South-West Rail Corridor Formation/ transporting 200,000 tons of freight until 2017

 

Tehran, 25 June (RAME UIC): The presidents of 5 Railways including Islamic Republic of Iran, Republic of Azerbaijan, Republic of Georgia, Republic of Ukraine and Republic of Poland signed an agreement for formation of the joint corridor of South-West-South.

Based on this report, this corridor is considered the appropriate route for connecting Asian South-Eastern countries, India, Pakistan and Persian Gulf countries through the connecting route of Iran to Poland and other European Countries.

Based on the mentioned protocol, the privileges of the administration related to the coordination among the members of the corridors and also identification of the subjects related to application of the tariff privileges among the member railways were assigned to Azerbaijan Railway.

The responsibility of preparing the charter draft of the coordination Committee was assigned to Azerbaijan Railway and Baku is obliged to compile and prepare the mentioned charter within maximum one month from the date of signing the protocol.

Mention shall be made that the member parties in south-west-south corridor were committed to take all the efforts to increase the volume of the freight transport up to 200,000 tons by the end of this year.

The first meeting for the coordination among the members of this corridor is going to be convened on 6-7 of September 2017 in the city of Odessa in Ukraine and the members will discuss the way of advancements in the construction of the corridor and also considering the probable difficulties on the way of its formation.
