Iran: FS expects to sign a contract for high-speed line by February 2017

The CEO of Italian railway group Ferrovie dello Stato (FS), Renato Mazzoncini, declared that the group expects to sign its first contract worth EUR 1bn (USD 1.11bn)for the implementation of a high-speed train line between the towns of Qom and Arak, in Iran, by February 2017.

Mazzoncinis statement follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed by FS and the Iranian railway operator (REI) which envisaged collaboration project like the implementation of two high-speed railway lines, the implementation of a testing centre managed by Italcertifer and staff training as well as technical support activities for the acquisition of 500 passenger train carriages worth a total of about EUR 4bn, EUR 1bn of which worth of rolling stock.
